Learning from operational experience is an essential characteristic of successful businesses. "Negative events" (errors, disruptions accident, near accidents) are an important starting point to optimize safety oriented operations.
In order to make this improvement potential accessible MTO has in co-operation with the research Center for system safety at the Berlin University of Technology developed the methodology SOL Safety through Organizational Learning. SOL enables the systematic analysis of safety relevant events in order to facilitate comprehensive learning from operational experience.
SOL – SOL Safety through Organizational Learning
A Methodology for the Systematic Analysis of Events
SOL systematically identifies weaknesses in the main organizational sub-systems technology, individual, teams, organization and organizational environment as well as in the interfaces between these sub-systems. The opportunities for "learning from events" are effectively increased through SOL.
SOL has been tested in different industries over many years with great success in preventing losses and to optimize economic outputs. SOL continues to be successfully applied internationally in nuclear power plants.
Software for Event Analysis
In order to support the user, SOL is available as software. The software is the standard application for the analysis of events in all German and Swiss nuclear power plants.
Continuing Training for Event Analysts
The continuing training program for event analysts provides safety specialists a comprehensive knowledge for their work in a series of seminars that build upon another.
